Vaux (Moselle)

Vaux is a commune with 866 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Moselle in the Lorraine region. It belongs to the district of Metz- Campagne and the canton of Ars- sur -Moselle.

Geography

Vaux is located a few kilometers from Metz upstream on the other side of the Moselle at an altitude 167-353 m above sea level, the average height is 230 m. The municipality covers 6.63 km ² ( 663 ha), and the population density is 132 inhabitants per km ². The municipality is located in the Regional Natural Park of Lorraine.

History

The town was first mentioned in 875 as Vallis.

1915-18 and 1940-44 he wore the Germanized name whale.
