Cirrus Airlines

Cirrus Airlines was a German airline based in Saarbrücken and based on the Saarbrücken Airport.

History

The airline was founded in 1995 by entrepreneur Gerd Brandecker based in Saarbrücken. After the first scheduled flight in March 1998 between Saarbrücken and Hamburg the route network of the company has been constantly expanded and included up to the attitude of flight operations targets in Germany, Austria and Switzerland.

As of 2000, the Company owned by the team at Lufthansa, since its resolution 2004 was a partner of Lufthansa, offering codeshare flights in cooperation with Lufthansa, Swiss International Air Lines and Air Moldova on. In December 2004, the Cirrus Group Augsburg Airways took over. Since 2005 Cirrus Airlines is a member of IATA. In May 2007, the ATON Group rose a Cirrus.

January 9, 2008 Cirrus Airlines announced to move for economic reasons, its headquarters from Saarbrücken- Ensheim to Munich Airport and to unite the offices with the sister Augsburg Airways there. So was realigned business in March 2008. New seat for almost two years was Hallbergmoos, directly at Munich Airport. The independent company Cirrus Technology and Cirrus Flight Training remained in Saarbrücken- Ensheim or two bridges. In the same year, Cirrus Airlines joined the Federation of German airlines.

Gerd Brandecker sold in August 2008 its remaining 49 - % stake in Cirrus Group to Aton GmbH and retired from the company. End of December 2008 have been extracted from the Cirrus Group and sold to the Society of Aviation Investment Cirrus founder Gerd Brandecker Cirrus Airlines, Cirrus Technology, Cirrus Flight Training and nana tours. The sole shareholder of Cirrus Airlines was the Aviation Investment GmbH. The Cirrus Group with the company DC Aviation and Augsburg Airways remained in the possession of Aton.

As of December 31, 2009, Cirrus Technik GmbH was liquidated. A majority of the staff was transferred to the newly founded Cirrus Maintenance GmbH, a subsidiary of Cirrus Airlines.

For January 2010 Ingrid Schultheis was appointed alongside Gerd Brandecker the management. The 2008 moved to Munich headquarters of Cirrus Airlines returned in January 2010 back to Saarbrücken. As part of this restructuring, the corporate headquarters of Cirrus Airlines, Cirrus Maintenance, Cirrus service and nana tours were completely merged in Saarbrücken. In July 2010, Gerd Brandecker withdrew from the management to purely concentrate on its role as a shareholder. New Managing Director alongside Ingrid Schultheis was January Bresler.

On the afternoon of January 20, 2012 Cirrus Airlines introduced the line operation and flight booking at short notice and without further notice until further one. On January 23, 2012, filed for insolvency for Cirrus and Cirrus service.

End of March 2012 announced OLT Express Germany, to take over several departments of Cirrus Airlines and establish a base in Saarbrücken. The fleet and flight attendants would not persisted. In early May 2012, the acquisition was canceled without giving any reason. OLT Express itself known early 2013, also bankruptcy.

Destinations

In 2011, served Cirrus Airlines Bern, Dresden, Hamburg, Hof-Plauen, Münster / Osnabrück, Salzburg, Frankfurt, Stuttgart, Munich, Mannheim and Erfurt -Weimar and Vienna and Zurich. In the past, Cirrus Airlines also ran more patterns that were retired during the fleet modernization and harmonization. These include Beechcraft Super King Air 200, Boeing 737-500, De Havilland Canada DHC -8 -100 and DHC -8 -300 Embraer ERJ 145, Embraer 175, CRJ200 (operated by Adria Airways ) and Dornier 328-300.

Trivia

  • Cirrus Airlines became the first operator of the Embraer 170 in Germany.
  • A Dornier 328 by Cirrus Airlines with the registration D - CIRP was the last line machine at 22:17 clock left the airport Berlin -Tempelhof prior to its closure in Mannheim on 30 October 2008.
  • Even today, almost two years after the bankruptcy, advertising for Cirrus Airlines is on the bonds of Bosenbach Stadium in St. Wendel. This is still in good condition and was, although many neighboring commercials were altered or replaced, not removed.

Incidents

On 19 March 2008 the Dornier was 328-100 with the registration D - CTOB on the flight from Berlin -Tempelhof to Mannheim on landing in Mannheim by train from and collided beyond the end of runway 27 with an earthen wall. Of the 24 passengers, five were slightly injured, the three -man crew escaped with a fright. The machine was badly damaged.
