Cy Denneny

Joseph Cyril " Cy " Denneny ( born December 23, 1891 in Farran 's Point, Ontario, † September 10, 1970 in Ottawa, Ontario ) was a Canadian professional ice hockey player and coach, the Boston Bruins in 1917-1929 for the Ottawa Senators and the National Hockey League played.

Career

Denneny played with the Toronto Shamrocks in the National Hockey Association. Within the league, he joined the Toronto Blue Shirts in which he became one of the top scorers in the league.

In establishing the NHL, he was already 25 years old. He played with the Ottawa Senators in a row with Jack Darragh and Frank Nighbor. There he had to take over the physical part. Later, he was asked the robust Punch Broadbent to the side. In the first nine years of the league, he was found almost always close to the top of the scorers list. This placement he did not reach mostly due to many assists, he scored the goals rather itself. His 246 goals are compared to only 69 assists.

According to his Stanley Cup successes in Ottawa in 1920, 1921, 1923 and 1927, he won the Cup as player-coach in 1929 for the fifth time. He also coached the Ottawa Senators in their last season. Following the move of the team, he moved to the Boston Bruins.

In 1959 he was honored with induction into the Hockey Hall of Fame.
