Eukelade ( Jupiter XLVII) is one of the smaller moons of the planet Jupiter.

Discovery

S/2003 J 1 was discovered on February 5, 2003 by astronomers at the University of Hawaii. The moon has received (after Eukelade, a daughter of Zeus) by the International Astronomical Union ( IAU) on 30 March 2005 the official name Eukelade.

Path data

Eukelade orbits Jupiter at an average distance of 23,661,000 km in 746 days and 10 hours. The track has an eccentricity of 0.272. With an inclination of 165.5 °, the track is retrograde, that is, the moon moves against the direction of rotation of Jupiter around the planet.

Because of its web properties is Eukelade the Carme group, named after Jupiter's moon Carme assigned.

Physical data

Eukelade has a diameter of about 4 km. Its density is estimated under the assumption of an overriding structure of silicate rock to 2.6 g / cm ³. Its apparent magnitude is 22.6 m.
