Fußach

Fußach is a municipality in the Austrian state of Vorarlberg (district Bregenz) with 3764 inhabitants (December 31, 2013).

Geography

Fußach located on the southern shore of Lake Constance to 398 meters. Together with communities and maximum Gaißau the village is within the Rhine delta. The name probably comes from the former Fußach Fussach name for the river, which now flows as Dornbirner Oh in hardware in Lake Constance. Before the so-called Fussach puncture as part of the regulation of the Rhine in 1900 this resulted in Fußach in Lake Constance, where they separated the place of Hofsteig.

Neighboring communities

The community Fußach borders on four other municipalities in Vorarlberg, three of which as well as in the district of Bregenz Fußach located and a - namely the market town Lustenau - Dornbirn is located in the neighboring district. The three neighboring municipalities of the district Bregenz are the market town of Hard, the community Lauterach and the local maximum. In contrast to the other two Vorarlberg Rhine Delta communities Fußach does not border by land to Switzerland ( according to the heap theory but indeed in the Bodensee).

History

The name was first Fußach 840 as Fossonas called ( tax register of the monastery Pfaffers ). The village, named in 1090 in a deed Villa Fozzaha, had its first heyday in the Middle Ages.

Fußach was one of the most important transshipment centers in the Bodensee area. Already in the 11th century were boatmen and carters from Fozzaha or Fuozza, as the name was also written in the service of various counts, princes and monasteries in southern Germany.

Back in the 15th century, the transportation of goods and travelers between Lindau and Milan was in the hands of messengers Institute Spehler & Vis ( white). This was based in Fußach and out went 1823 forwarding Gebrüder Weiss forth. Originally anxious riders postal traffic, and later goods, and passengers were transported.

At the heyday of the transport system in Fußach still remembers the Zuschg, the warehouse for the movement of goods, which was built in 1795 instead of the earlier timber hall.

The most famous passenger was Johann Wolfgang von Goethe. He walked to the back of his first trip to Italy with Milan messengers and spent the night on Monday, June 12, 1788 at Gasthaus Krone in Fußach, next to the church. Around the year 1850, the heyday of the community came to an end. The construction of the Bregenz harbor, but above all, the railway line Lindau - Bregenz and the construction of the Arlberg route (tunnel completion 1884) threw Fußach back economically. Agriculture and fishing were now the main sources of income.

At the castle to Fußach only remembers the " Castle Hill ". 1390 died Count Rudolf, the last of the House of the von Montfort- Feldkirch, on this castle. He had his property previously ceded to the Habsburgs, so to Austria. A sheriff managed the castle on behalf of the Habsburgs. In Appenzell War of 1460, the castle was destroyed and rebuilt in 1799 completely removed. The stones were used to build the house and the Blum'schen Mühlwuhr.

As an independent municipality Fußach was established in 1772 with a population of around 400 at that time by the municipality division of Hoechst. 1938-1945, the three Rhine Delta communities Fußach, maximum and Gaißau were forcibly merged into community Rheinau. Immediately after the Second World War was Fußach political independence back.

The flood risk was formerly one of the main concerns of the Rhine delta communities. Of the many Rhine floods were the most serious consequences of the 1817, 1834, 1868, 1888 and 1890. Fussach With the creation of the Rhine in 1900 by engraving an effective protection against flooding Rhine was reached. This brought Fußach the direct access to Lake Constance, because the Dornbirner Ache, hitherto Access to Fussach port was placed in another bed and directed parallel to the new Rhine into Lake Constance. From 1805 to 1814, the town belonged to Bavaria, then back to Austria.

Policy

The municipal council consists of 24 members. The composition according to the 2010 election: 13 seats for the list Mayor Ernst Blum and Free Wählergemeinschaft, 8 seats for the Fussach ÖVP and independents and three seats for the list for Fußach. For Mayor Ernst Blum Member of Parliament was elected by the FPÖ in the direct line.

The municipality revenue from taxes and other charges in 2001 were at € 1,320,408, the municipal expenditure at € 5,644,591. The debt was 2001 4.402.987 €.

At the site there were in 2003 62 companies in the industrial sector with 327 employees and 25 apprentices. Taxable wage -employed, there were 1,850. Agriculture plays an important role. The proportion of agricultural land in the total area is 43.0 %.
