Göscheneralpsee

Highest rockfill dam of Switzerland

The Göscheneralpsee is a reservoir in the canton of Uri in the community Göschenen.

Location

To reach the lake of Göschenen ago by Göschener valley. The Göschener valley lies between the Susten Pass and the Furka pass.

Embedded is the lake between the Sustenhorn ( 3503 m high), the Dammastock ( 3630 m ) and the Galenstock ( 3586 m).

History

The dam Göscheneralp was completed in 1960. Dwelling houses and the church were flooded. The earlier settlement Göscheneralp, especially Hinteralp nine kilometers west of Göschenen, has disappeared in the reservoir. Their inhabitants moved to the members of the community Göschenen hamlet Gwüest.

The power plant also uses the water of Voralpreuss from the Voralptal, which is like that of Furkareuss taken at the Furka Pass and passed through tunnels. To water the Furkareuss also pushes the water out of the hole mountain stream.
