Goya Award for Best Director

Goya: Best Director ( Mejor dirección )

Winners and nominees in the category Best Director ( Mejor dirección, formerly Mejor Director ) since the first award of the Spanish National Film Awards on March 16, 1987 at Cine Lope de Vega in Madrid. The award recognizes the best filmmakers of local film productions (including Spanish co-productions ) of the respectively last year.

Win female filmmakers remained similar to the French César exceptions. After 1997, the Spaniard Pilar Miró, with its historic comedy El perro del hortelano won the Best Director Award, following her 2004 and 2006 their country women Icíar Bollaín ( Open my eyes) and Isabel Coixet ( The Secret Life of Words ).
