Heiloo

Heiloo ( listen? / I ) is a village in the northwest of the Netherlands, in the province of North Holland. The municipality has 22,585 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2013 ) on an area of ​​19.01 km ².

The village, whose name means " sacred forest " means, located about 4 km east of the seaside resort of Egmond aan Zee, and 2.5 km south of Alkmaar. It houses a lot of small businesses, but many of its residents are commuters who work in Alkmaar or in the blast furnace operation in Velsen. As in the neighboring village Limmen tulips and other bulbs are grown. Between Heiloo and Alkmaar is a forest area. There are several hotels and campsites. In the center stands a medieval white church, next to a fountain, said to have originated around 719 by a miracle. The Holy Willibrord is said to have prayed fervently to God for one night, the next morning there was - according to legend - this source. Also 2 kilometers south of Heiloo is a source ( Runxputte ), which was considered sacred even in pagan times. There is now the chapel Onze Lieve Vrouwe ter Nood ( " Our Lady of Need" ), held several times a year to the pilgrimages in honor of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

The station Heiloo is located on the double-track line (Amsterdam - Zaandam - ) Uitgeest - Alkmaar - Heerhugowaard ( - Den Helder ). In addition to the continuous main tracks there are no more tracks. It has an island platform with canopy. Adjacent are the north and south of the station Alkmaar Station Castricum.
