Haarlemmerliede en Spaarnwoude

( Listen? / I ) Haarlemmerliede en Spaarnwoude is a municipality in the Dutch province of North Holland with an area of ​​20.86 km ² and 5535 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2013).

The construction of the recreation area Spaarnwoude the municipality from a predominantly agrarian community changed towards a point at which the townspeople from the Randstad come to walk, ride a bike, to fish, play golf, enjoy the nature and for boating.

History

The community Haarlemmerliede en Spaarnwoude was established on September 8, 1857 by the merger of the two communities Haarlemmerliede and Spaarnwoude. The original idea was that the community receives the name Haarlemmerliede. Under pressure from the citizens of Spaarnwoude the name of their community was finally added yet. Finally Spaarnwoude was the older of the two villages and served for centuries as a center for worship and schools for the surrounding villages.

On September 27, 1863, the municipalities Houtrijk, Polans ( Halfweg and vicinity) and Zuidschalkwijk ( the current quarter in Haarlem Schalkwijk Zuidoost) were added. After the reclamation of Houtrak, a part of the IJ bay, the municipal area enlarged in 1874 by the rather large Houtrakpolder.

On May 1, 1927, a reorganization of boundaries around the city of Haarlem, which makes this spread vigorously. The communities pods and Spaarndam went up in Haarlem. For Haarlemmerliede en Spaarnwoude this meant the loss of Waarderpolders and parts of Veerpolders, the Zuiderpolders and Romolenpolders at Haarlem.

On 1 October 1963, the rest of this polder was transferred to Haarlem. In this case, the whole village Zuidschalkwijk was part of the municipality of Haarlem.

1963 and 1970, was a large part of the municipality of Amsterdam Houtrakpolders that wanted to expand its port. This did not happen without conflict: So the island Ruigoord, part of the polder, of opponents was " annexation " occupied after the original inhabitants were resettled. The then Mayor Frank IJsselmuiden has always spoken clearly against the spread of Amsterdamers port area.
