Hudson Greater Eight

The Hudson Greater Eight was a car of the Hudson Motor Car Co., which was produced in model years 1930 to 1932 and was one of the well-known series T and U. The name " Greater Eight" is derived from the 1929 models, which the company called " Greater Hudson " in order to highlight its advances in technology and styling.

The Greater Eight were built on chassis with 3023 mm ( T series ) or 3200 mm (Series U) wheelbase and was Hudson's first attempts of a softer, less edgy designs. The Greater Eight also has a fine mesh grille, which distinguishes it from other contemporary vehicles brands. The Greater Eights received in 1932 a new, streamlined design. The cars are easily recognized by their unique rounded - triangular headlights and parking lamps that mimic the shape of the triangular Hudson logos.

Were equipped with motors controlled from the predecessor, the Hudson Greater Eight a side-valve straight-eight cylinder 3,504 cc ( bore x stroke = 69.9 mm x 114.3 mm) had, at the 3.400/min. an output of 80 bhp (59 kW) developed. The engine power was routed through a single-plate dry clutch and a three -speed transmission with floor shift to the rear axle.

1931 engine 3830 cc was drilled ( bore x stroke = 73.0 mm x 114.3 mm) and its performance increased to 87 bhp (64 kW) at 3.600/min. In the following year an even bigger machine with 4,169 cc ( bore x stroke = 76.2 mm x 114.3 mm) and 101 bhp (75 kW) was installed. The grille with its fine-mesh net was a slight V-shape.

In model year 1933, the Greater Eight replaced by the Hudson Pacemaker Standard Eight / Eight Major.
