ING Group

ING Groep N.V. is a Dutch bancassurance institution in the form of a joint stock company with headquarters in Amsterdam.

The Bank is one of the 28 major banks, which by the Financial Stability Board (FSB) as " systemically important financial institution" ( systemically important financial institution) were classified. Therefore it is subject to special monitoring and stringent requirements on the level of equity.

History

The Group was formed in 1990 from a merger of the insurer Nationale- Nederlanden by the NMB Postbank Group and was called after the merger Nederlanden Groep International ( ING ). However, the abbreviation ING was so well known that the name was changed accordingly.

At ING Groep N.V., is a holding company that acts as the parent company for several banks and insurance companies, for example for the Dutch ING Bank, or the German subsidiary of ING -DiBa. Measured by market capitalization, the company 's eighth-largest financial services providers in the world and thus leader in the Netherlands.

On the Forbes list for the year 2007, ING Groep is the ninth largest company by revenue in the world.

After the misspeculations Nick Leeson and the collapse of Barings Bank was taken over for the symbolic price of one pound sterling in 1995. In 1999 also the German BHF- Bank was taken over.

Financial Crisis 2007/2008

Due to the financial crisis, ING Groep had to take 19 October 2008 ten billion euros in state aid claim. The equity ratio was strengthened, consequently, the Group was able to obtain additional liquidity in the market cheaper. In addition, the market price was, by its own account, supported, who was slumped on 17 October 2008 after the announcement of a loss of 500 million euros in the third quarter of 2008 to its lowest level since the mid- 1990s. For the full year 2008, a net loss of 171 million euros was recorded. ING Bank is the first Dutch financial company, the means of a emergency fund of the Dutch government had to take to support banks. In February 2009, 80 percent of a nominal 28 billion euros major real estate loan portfolios were taken over by the Dutch government. The group should, according to the European Union, be smashed by 2013 into two parts. With this step, the risk is halved and the Group's business are reduced.
