J. Léonce Bernard

Joseph Gérard Léonce Bernard, O.PEI (* May 23, 1943 in Abrams Village, Prince Edward Iceland, † March 27, 2013 ) was a Canadian politician. From 2001 to 2006 he was Vice- Governor of the Province of Prince Edward Iceland.

The Acadians Bernard, a trained accountant, served in the Royal Canadian Air Force. After that, he worked as Managing Director of a local bank. For the Prince Edward Iceland Liberal Party he ran in 1975 with success in a by-election for a seat in the Legislative Assembly. In five subsequent election dates he succeeded each re-election. In the reign of Joe Ghiz, he held two ministerial posts: From 1986 to 1989 he was Minister of Industry, later Minister of Fisheries to 1991. 1993 Bernard resigned as an MP. Governor General Adrienne Clarkson sworn him on 28 May 2001 as Lieutenant Governor of Prince Edward Iceland. This representative office he held until 31 July 2006.
