James McCleary

James Thompson McCleary ( born February 5, 1853 in Ingersoll, Ontario, Canada, † December 17, 1924 in La Crosse, Wisconsin ) was an American politician. Between 1893 and 1907 he represented the state of Minnesota in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

James McCleary graduated from the Ingersoll High School and then studied at McGill University in Montreal. He later moved to Wisconsin, where he served in Pierce County as a school board. He then settled in Minnesota, where he also worked in various positions in education.

Politically McCleary was a member of the Republican Party. In the congressional elections of 1892 he was in the second electoral district of Minnesota in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington, DC chosen, where he became the successor of John Lind on March 4, 1893. After six re- election he was able to complete in Congress until March 3, 1907 seven contiguous legislatures. In this time of the Spanish-American War was. In the 1906 elections McCleary defeated Democrat Winfield Scott Hammond. Between 1907 and 1908 he was Head of Department in the Federal Ministry of Postal Services. Between 1911 and 1920 he acted as secretary of the American Iron and Steel Institute in New York City. Then moved to McCleary according to Maiden Rock, Wisconsin, where he worked in agriculture. Then he settled in Mill Valley ( California). There he occupied himself with literary matters. 1924 McCleary returned back to Maiden Rock; He died in December of the same year in La Crosse and was buried in Maiden Rock.
