John Kline (politician)

John Kline ( born September 6, 1947 in Allentown, Pennsylvania) is an American politician of the Republican Party, and since 1999 member of the U.S. House of Representatives for Minnesota.

Biography

After visiting the WB Ray High School in Corpus Christi (Texas ), he studied at Rice University in Houston and acquired in 1969 with a Bachelor of Arts (BA).

After he made from 1969 to 1994 his military service in the U.S. Marine Corps ( USMC) and completed in the meantime also a post graduate degree in Public Administration from Shippensburg University of Pennsylvania and completed this in 1988 with a Master of Public Administration (MPA ). During his military service, he was not only a helicopter pilot in the Vietnam War, but later commander of all naval aviation forces of the Unified Task Force during Operation Restore Hope in 1992 and 1993 as well as pilot of Marine One, the helicopter of the U.S. president. Most recently, he was program development officer at the headquarters of the USMC.

For his military services he was awarded several times and received, among other things, the Defense Superior Service Medal, four times the Legion of Merit and the Meritorious Service Medal.

After his retirement from active military service with the rank of Colonel, he worked as a management consultant.

After unsuccessful candidate in 1998 and 2000 for the U.S. House of Representatives, he was first elected to the House of Representatives in 2002. After three re- elections he represents there since January 3, 2003 2nd Congressional District of Minnesota. Currently, he is also the highest-level member of the Republican minority fraction ( Ranking Minority Member) the Committee on Education and Labor ( U.S. House Committee on Education and Labor ). In addition, he is still a member of the Armed Services Committee (U.S. House Committee on Armed Services).
