Jerry Simpson

Jeremiah "Jerry" Simpson ( born March 31, 1842 Prince Edward Iceland, Canada, † October 23, 1905 in Wichita, Kansas ) was an American politician. Between 1891 and 1895, and again from 1897 to 1899, he was the seventh election district of the state of Kansas in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

In 1848, Simpson came with his parents from his Canadian home in the Oneida County in upstate New York. There he attended the public schools. Between 1856 and 1879 he was temporarily boatmen and dealt with matters of shipping. During the Civil War he was a soldier in an infantry regiment from Illinois. In 1878, Simpson moved to the Barber County, Kansas, where he settled near Medicine Lodge. There he focused on agricultural matters, and in this case especially with the livestock. During this time, his political activity began. Twice he ran unsuccessfully as an independent candidate for the House of Representatives from Kansas. Then he joined the movement resulting from the Farmer populist party.

1890 Simpson was in the seventh district of Kansas, whose members were elected at that time remains in public far, in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC selected. There he came on March 3, 1891, the successor of the Republican Samuel R. Peters. After a re-election in 1892, he was initially able to complete two terms in Congress until March 3, 1895.
