William Augustus Reeder

William Augustus Reeder (* August 28 1849 in Shippensburg, Cumberland County, Pennsylvania, † November 7, 1929 in Beverly Hills, California ) was an American politician. Between 1899 and 1911 he represented the sixth electoral district of the state of Kansas in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

In 1853 William Reeder moved with his parents to Ipava in Fulton County in Illinois. There he attended the public schools. Between 1863 and 1871 he taught in Illinois even as a teacher. In 1871 he moved to Beloit in Mitchell County, Kansas. He was from 1871 to 1879 main teacher in the public schools. After another move in 1880 to Logan in Phillips County, he was active in the banking industry. Between 1891 and 1901 he was also interested in agriculture and especially for crops with the help of irrigation.

Politically, shipowner member of the Republican Party. In 1898, he was as their candidate in the sixth district of Kansas in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of Nelson B. McCormick on March 4, 1899. After five elections shipowners could pass in Congress until March 3, 1911 six legislative periods. Between 1901 and 1907 he was chairman of the Committee on Mileage, 1907-1911 he was a member of the Irrigation Committee. In 1910, Reeder was not nominated by his party for another term.

Still in 1911 he first moved to Los Angeles and then in 1913 to Beverly Hills. There he worked until 1926 in the banking and real estate business. William Reeder died on November 7, 1929 in Beverly Hills, and was buried in the Hollywood Cemetery.
