Although Staal brought good performance, but since his entry contract in the NHL only began with the tenth completed season game, it was these considerations on the part of management of the Penguins. This was due to the transfer and contract system in the NHL. With the Penguins, he failed in the Conference semi-finals in seven games against the Montreal Canadiens. After he had his first four seasons only missed an NHL game, Staal was set due to a foot injury for a long time out of action, so he had to stop 2011 from the game until early January for the season 2010/11.
