Kerstin Köppen

Kerstin Köppen (* November 24, 1967 in Rathenow ) is a retired German rower who reached two Olympic medals and five world titles.

After a second place in the double sculls at the Junior World Championships in 1984 she could be 1985 Junior World Champion in the quadruple sculls. At the 1988 Olympics, she traveled as a substitute wife of the GDR team. 1990 and 1991 was Köppen world champion quadruple scull in the cast Kerstin Köppen, Sybille Schmidt, Claudia Krüger and Jana Sorgers. In 1992 she joined as the successor of Beate Schramm to Kathrin Boron in the double sculls. At the Olympic Games in 1992 were Boron and Köppen Olympic champions. After the two lost at the World Championships in 1993 against the Kiwis Philippa Baker and Brenda Lawson to boronic tried in one and Köppen moved back into the quadruple sculls. In 1994, the German sculls with Kristina Mundt, Katrin Rutschow, Jana Sorgers and Kerstin Köppen became world champion. 1995 sat Jana Thieme for Kristina Mundt in the boat and helped to defend the title. At the Olympic Games in 1996 the German sculls in the occupation of Jana Sorgers, Katrin Rutschow, Kathrin Boron and Kerstin Köppen went to and won pretty sure the Olympic Regatta. 1997 umbesetzte sculls with Kathrin Boron, Manuela Lutze, Jana Thieme and Kerstin Köppen again became World Champion. Then Kerstin Köppen ended her sports career.

In 1998, the qualified sports teacher Köppen was jointly awarded Roland Baar for her outstanding career by the World Rowing Federation with the Thomas Keller Medal. Kerstin Köppen rowed for the Potsdam RG and was coached by Jutta Lau.
