Klaus Bonsack

Klaus -Michael Bonsack ( born December 26, 1941 in Walter Hausen ) is a former German luger.

Bonsacks athletic career began on the spit mountain railway located not far from his home town Luge stronghold Friedrichroda. At the Olympic Games in Grenoble 1968 the launching of the GDR Bonsack was with Thomas Köhler Olympic champion in doubles. In 1964 he finished second in the single-seater at the Olympic Games in Innsbruck. At the Olympic Winter Games Sapporo in 1972 he won the bronze medal in doubles with Wolfram Fiedler. At the opening ceremony of the 1972 Olympic Games in Sapporo, he was standard bearer of the GDR team.

Bonsack competed for the SC tractor Oberwiesenthal and won a total of eleven DDR title. The trained locksmith (1964 operates in the wagon VEB Gotha ) studied at the School of Engineering in Schmalkalden. After the end of his active career, he worked in the scientific center of the slide and Bobsportverbandes the GDR. In 1990 the Bonsack coach position at the Austrian Luge Association and trained under other Doris and Angelika Neuner.

He was awarded in June 1964, the Patriotic Order of Merit in bronze. In 1968 he was awarded for his Olympic victory in the Patriotic Order of Merit in silver and after the Olympic Winter Games in 1972 the medal in gold.
