Kozani (regional unit)

The Regional District of Kozani (Greek Periferiaki Enotita Kozani ) is the largest of the four regional districts of the Greek region of Western Macedonia. Its main town of Kozani is also the capital of the region. By 2010, Kozani was one of the Greek prefectures. With the Kallikratis reform the powers of the Prefecture of the region and the greatly reduced by merging municipalities were transferred. The Regional District Kozani deploys with 26 MPs in the 41 -member Regional westmakedonischen and thus occupies the majority of seats, but also has no political significance. It includes the municipalities Eordea, Kozani, Servia - Velvendo and Voio.

Geographically, the region is mountainous and is characterized by continental climate with cold winters and hot summers off. It's such a large temperature variations between winter and summer, and in winter can be minus degrees even lakes freeze over.
