L'Isle-sur-le-Doubs

L' Isle- sur -le- Doubs is a commune in the French department Doubs in the Franche -Comté. It is the capital of the Canton of L' Isle- sur -le- Doubs in the arrondissement of Montbéliard.

Geography

L' Isle- sur -le- Doubs is 292 m, approximately 18 km west-southwest of the town of Montbéliard (air line). The village extends into the broad Talniederung of Doubs, of a large curve to the north stands here and divides into two branches which form an elongated island, on the northern edge of the outermost ridges of the Jura.

The area of ​​10.67 km ² municipal area comprises a portion of Doubstals. The northern part of the area occupied by the bend of the Doubs. History

In the 13th century, the area of L' Isle- sur -le- Doubs belonged to the monastery Lieucroissant. This left the island in the Doubs in 1230 the Lords of Neuchâtel, which were built here a castle.
