The list of cities in South Korea provides an overview of the development of the population of the larger towns and cities of the East Asian country South Korea.

Agglomerations by population

The largest agglomerations in South Korea (as of 1 January 2005):

Alone in the capital region of Seoul, 43 percent of people live in the country.

Urban settlements by population

The following table lists the urban settlements with more than 100,000 inhabitants, whose name in German transcription and in Korean ( Hangul and Hanja ), and the results of censuses ( IV) of 1995, 2000 and 2005 (each November 1st). Listed is also the parent administrative unit ( province ), to which the city belongs. The capital city of Seoul and the towns of Busan, Daegu, Daejeon, Gwangju, Incheon and Ulsan are independent and do not belong to the province. The population figures refer to the respective urban settlement - the geographical area the city - not the city or municipality in the political sense.

Listed is also the parent administrative unit ( province ), to which the city belongs. The capital city of Seoul and the towns of Busan, Daegu, Daejeon, Gwangju, Incheon and Ulsan are independent and do not belong to the province. The population figures refer to the community in its political boundaries, without politically independent suburbs.
