Moradabad district

The district Moradabad (Hindi: मुरादाबाद जिला ) is a district of the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh; Council is based in the eponymous city of Moradabad.

Geography

The district Moradabad is situated in the Rohilkhand region in the north-west Uttar Pradesh and is part of the Moradabad Division. Neighboring districts are Rampur in the east, in the south Sambhal, Amroha in the West, Bijnor in the northwest and Udham Singh Nagar in the Northeast. The latter already belongs to the neighboring Federal State of Uttarakhand.

Before the spin-off of the district Sambhal in 2011, the district Moradabad had an area of 3,718 square kilometers. The area belongs to the flat and intensively farmed Gangetic Plain. The district area is the Ramganga, a tributary of the Ganges, flowing through it.

The district Moradabad is divided into four Tehsils Thakurdwara, Kanth, Moradabad and Bilari. The Sambhal Tehsils and Chandausi 2011 came to the newly formed District Sambhal.

History

The district Moradabad was established in 1801 by the British after the Nawab of Oudh had assigned them the Rohilkhand region. Initially, the district Moradabad also included the area of ​​the later Bijnor districts and Budaun, which were released in 1817 or 1822 as a separate district from Moradabad. During the British reign, the district part of the ceded and Conquered Provinces was ( 1836 North Western Provinces ), which were in 1902 a part of the United Provinces of Agra and Oudh. Population
