Moulins-lès-Metz

Moulins- lès -Metz is a commune with 5105 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Moselle in the Lorraine region.

Geography

The municipality of Moulins- lès -Metz is located a few kilometers west of Metz. The old center is to the left of the Moselle, newer residential and industrial establishments on the right side of the Moselle, which form a closed settlement area along with other surrounding communities and the city of Metz. The municipality of Moulins is southeast from the airbase Jean Dagnaux in Metz- Frescaty ( Base aérienne 128 Metz- Frescaty ) limited.

History

The town was first mentioned in 936 as Molendinum and lies on the old Roman road from Verdun to Metz, where they crossed the Mosel shortly before Metz. As a possession of the bishops of Metz, the city guarded the bridge over the Moselle until the river changed its course in 1617. In 1513 the city was called Mollin devant Metz, 1552 came to France.

1871 to 1918 she was as a result of the German - French war once the German Reich.

1915-18 and 1940-44 she was the German name mills at Metz.
