Murray Iceland, called by the natives Mer, is the most easterly inhabited island in the archipelago of the Torres Strait Islands. With the 2 km south-west to uninhabited islands Dowar Iceland ( Dauar ) and Wyer Iceland ( Waier ), it forms the group of the Murray Islands.

The island is of volcanic origin, oval in shape and about 4.1 square kilometers. The main settlement ( Mer ) is located on the northwest coast. According to the census of 2006 there lived 485 people, according to 431 in 2001.

Administratively, the island belongs to the Eastern Islands, the easternmost island region in the municipality of Torres Shire of Queensland (Australia). The island is divided among the tribes comet, Zagareb, Meuram, Magaram, Geuram, Peibre, Meriam - Samsep, Piadram and duration Meriam. For tribal area of Meuram also includes the islands of Darnley and Stephens Iceland Iceland and the uninhabited islands north and east of it, to Bramble Cay.

One of the most famous inhabitants of Iceland Murray was born here in 1936 Eddie Mabo, who campaigned intensively in court for the land rights of Torres Strait Islanders.
