Nuevo Baztán

Nuveo Baztán is a municipality in the eastern part of the autonomous community of Madrid. It is located in the countryside areas of Cuenca del Henares and Comarca de Alcalá. The municipality consists of the villages of EUR Villas, Las Villas de Nuevo Baztán, Monteacevedo and El Mirador del Baztán.

The community had on 1 January 2013, according to information provided by the INE reported 6299 inhabitants in an area of 20.2 km ². This corresponds to 312 inhabitants per km ². The official language is Castilian.

Location

Nuevo Baztán located 45 kilometers south-west of the Spanish capital Madrid and 20 kilometers from Alcalá de Henares. In the north, bordering the municipalities Pezuelas de las Torres, in the south of Villar del Olmo, and to the east Olmeda de las Fuentes.

History

1709 started construction on a part of the municipality of Olmeda de la Cebolla. The initiative came from the then Spanish King Carlos II and the politician Juan de Goyeneche. The first certification and appointment to the city dated October 3, 1723. Palacio de Goyeneche was built in honor of the town's founder in 1713 of José Benito de Churriguera. The building complex consisting of the palace of Juan de Goyeneche and associated with the Palace church of San Francisco Javier were classified in 1980 as a cultural monument.

In the community buildings have been preserved, which are an example of the Mudejar style in the region. This style was indicative of a time period, which ranged from the late 12th to early 17th century and was distinguished by the use of typical Moorish forms and techniques in the Christian areas. The use of brick in the buildings and the brightly painted wooden ceilings are some of the main features.

This former agricultural community was gradually to the suburb of Madrid, have numerous families from the nearby capital today in Nuevo Baztán their second homes.

Climate

The location on 831 meters above sea level and continental climate in the summer Nuveo Baztán are hot and dry, winters but much colder than in the cities of the Mediterranean coast of Spain.
