Off the Wall is the fifth studio album by Michael Jackson. It was released on August 10, 1979 by Epic Records and was produced by Quincy Jones. From the album over 20 million records sold; it was then the world's most successful album by a black artist.

Production

Off the Wall was taken from the December 4, 1978 to June 3, 1979 at Allen Zentz Recording, Westlake Audio and Cherokee Studios. Was mixed at Westlake Audio, Los Angeles. Prior to working at Off the Wall had been feared, Quincy Jones did not fit because of its strong radio - orientation to Jackson.

Despite the success of the album Michael Jackson was disappointed because he was awarded in 1980 with only a Grammy (for the opening title of the album Do not Stop 'til You Get Enough ).

Chart positions and sales

Off the Wall reached Rank 3 of the U.S. charts and stayed 48 weeks in the top 20 in the UK, it was ranked fifth

In the U.S. alone 9 million recordings sold. The album sold well internationally very well, a total of 20 million times.

The two singles Do not Stop 'til You Get Enough and Rock with You were number one hits the U.S. top ten. The other extractions She's Out of My Life and the title track Off the Wall reached the Top Ten. This was previously not been the case in the U.S. in any album.

Awards

The single from the album Do not Stop 'til You Get Enough 1980 he received a Grammy Award for Best Male R & B Vocal Performance category.

The music magazine Rolling Stone chose Off the Wall on rank 68 of the 500 Greatest Albums Of All Time.

Title list

On the first pressing of the album other versions of the songs Rock with You and Get on the Floor were included. These have not been published to date on other sources.

In Europe, the Single Off the Wall came out at the time, as came on the market in the U.S. Rock With You. Conversely, the title Rock With You was released in Europe than in the United States Off The Wall was released as a single.

Since 2001, only the Special Edition is sold. It also contains audio commentary by Quincy Jones and Rod Temperton and the bonus tracks
