Registration figures

In the German registration statistics, both the Kadett and Astra were long the " eternal second " behind the VW Beetle and later the Volkswagen Golf, which until 1983, the second place was cemented and could be maintained until 2000.

Since the beginning of the new millennium, the Astra in Germany, however, increasingly loses ground. So he lost his ancestral second place in 2001 and fell to 2003 and got to number 8 of the registration statistics back. The main reasons for this may lie primarily in the quality problems of Opel in the 1990s, due to which many customers Opel their back (see also: Lopez effect). The growing competition is likely to have played a role.

With the introduction of the Astra H in spring 2004 was recaptured in Germany the second place - but only temporarily. Meanwhile, the Astra is struggling with a number of competing models for the top places of the German registration statistics, where number one is out of sight.

As in the German market the Opel Astra H could not displace the VW Golf on the European car market from the top of registrations in 2006 and in 2006 in Europe only ranked 7th 2008 was the ten-millionth Opel Astra from the tape.
