Plesnois

Plesnois is a commune with 777 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Moselle in the Lorraine region. It belongs to the district of Metz- Campagne and Canton Marange Silvange. The inhabitants call themselves the Plesnoissiens or Plesnoissiennes. The town's name is derived from the many large walnuts that have been grown in the area. Plesnois called after a place on the plane trees are planted.

Geography

Plesnois located seven kilometers northwest of the center of Metz on an average height of 242 meters above sea level. The municipality covers 3.11 km ².

History

The village was first mentioned in 1685 as Plenoy and was until 1840 part of the municipality Norroy -le- Veneur. Spellings of the place were also Plenoy or Pleneouf, then Plenois or Pléneuf 1759 and finally Plesnois in sources from 1808 and 1869.

1915-18 and 1940-44, it was the Germanized name Plenach, 1917 again changed in Plenau. In November 1940, a majority of the population was displaced by the Germans during the liberation in the fall of 1944, the village was badly damaged.

Demographics

The population was between 1793 and World War II between 310 and almost 430 inhabitants. 1946, however, the population had fallen to 206 persons

In Plesnois there are homes of 1580 or in 1700.

Economy and infrastructure

The most important branch of industry has long been agriculture. There were grown grapes and operated fruit and vegetable cultivation. Furthermore, there have been many fruit trees ( Mirabelle, cherries, apples, pears, and especially the nuts).
