The Quicken Loans Arena ( 1994-2005 Gund Arena, nicknamed " The Q ") is a multi-purpose arena in Cleveland, Ohio, home of the Cleveland Cavaliers of the NBA and the Lake Erie Monsters of the American Hockey League, the second highest ice hockey league in North America.

The namesake of the arena is the U.S. mortgage finance Quicken Loans Inc., headquartered in Detroit, Michigan.

History

Was built in the Arena from 27 April 1992, the project was financed, as well as the neighboring Jacobs Field, with a Pigouvian tax on alcohol and tobacco. The opening of the stadium took place on 17 October 1994 with a concert by the U.S. musician Billy Joel, a few weeks later disputed the Cleveland Cavaliers their first basketball game in the new hall. Previously the team had played their games in the Coliseum at Richfield located south of Cleveland Richfield. First, the stadium was called Gund Arena, named for Gordon Gund, the former owner of the Cavaliers, however, in August 2004 sold the naming rights to the " Quicken Loans Corporation ".

In the summer of 2005, began the new main owner of the Cavaliers, Dan Gilbert, with the renovation of the arena, which included, among other things, the installation of new seats and a new audio and video system. "The Q" offers at basketball games 20 562 spectators, including 2,000 in lodges and 92 luxury suites. In addition to professional sports, the Quicken Loans Arena also hosts various college basketball tournaments in the Mid- American Conference, a division in the play mode of the NCAA, which attract an average of 10,000 to 15,000 visitors in the hall.

On 16 May 2006, the AHL franchise in the Utah Grizzlies announced to want to move into the Quicken Loans Arena, where it plays under the name of Lake Erie Monsters since the 2007 /08 season. In October 2007, it did the Las Vegas Gladiators of the Arena Football League and the Grizzlies same contest since 2008, their games under the name Cleveland Gladiators in the arena. Former teams fought out their home games at the stadium, the women's basketball team the Cleveland Rockers of the Women's National Basketball Association, the Cleveland Barons of the AHL, and the Cleveland Lumberjacks, who played from 1994 to 2001 in the International Hockey League.

Other events that were held at the Quicken Loans Arena, various wrestling events, the U.S. Figure Skating Championships in 2000 and especially the NBA All -Star Game in 1997 and the Final Four NCAA women's basketball championship in 2007.
