Robert Emmiyan
Robert Emmijan (Armenian Ռոբերտ Էմմիյան, English transcription Robert Emmiyan, . Born February 16, 1965 in Leninakan, now Gyumri ) is a former Armenian long jump to reach his major successes in the team of the Soviet Union.
Robert Emmijan 1986 European champion and presented in 1986 and 1987 European records. Its 8.86 - meter jump from 1987 is valid European record, and Emmijan putting it in fourth place of the eternal world leaderboard (as of 15 March 2009).
Career
Even with 16 years Emmijan was with 7.77 m World Best in its age group. In 1983, he skipped the first time the eight -meter limit. In the same year he finished third at the Junior European Championships ( 7.83 m). In 1984 he won at the European Indoor Championships in Gothenburg with 7.89 m bronze, seven inches behind the champion Jan Leitner ( Czechoslovakia).
1986 won Emmijan at the European Indoor Championships in Madrid at 8.32 m gold before Szalma László (Hungary ), which reached 8.24 m. The winner of the 1986 Goodwill Games in Moscow, he presented with 8.61 m on a new European record and improved the record of Lutz Dombrowski ( 8.54 m) from the GDR. At the European Championships in 1986 in Stuttgart, he won with 8.41 m in front of Sergei Lajewski ( 8.01 m), his Soviet teammates and USSR champion of the years 1984 to 1987.
1987 improved Emmijan at the European Indoor Championships in Liévin the championship record to 8.49 m. He won against Giovanni Evangelisti (Italy ), who jumped 8.26 meters. Two weeks later won at the World Indoor Championships 1987 in Indianapolis Larry Myricks (USA) with 8.23 m in front of Paul Emordi (Nigeria ) and Evangelisti, which both jumped 8.01 m. Was Emmijan with 8.00m fourth.
On May 22, 1987 in Tsaghkadzor, 50 km north of Yerevan, Robert Emmijan jumped in 1750 meters height with 8.86 m European record and the second-best distance behind Bob Beamon's 8.90 -meter record of 1968, which at the height of Mexico city had jumped. Except Beamon jumped only Mike Powell and Carl Lewis in 1991 in Tokyo ever further. At the 1987 World Championships in Rome, Carl Lewis won with 8.67 m in front Emmijan 8.53 m. Behind it lay Myricks and Evangelisti.
At the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul itself Emmijan injured in the first round of qualifying. At the European Indoor Championships in 1990 in Glasgow Emmijan won with 8.06 m again bronze, the German Dietmar Haaf won with 8.11 m.
Then Emmijan could not reach a grand finale more. As of 1993 Emmijan went to Armenia, as well as in the Games in Atlanta in 1996, but with 7,76 m, he finished in qualifying only 28th place in 1995, 12 years after his first eight- meter jump, he succeeded on the French Track and Field Championships again a width of 8.00 m.
Robert Emmijan currently lives in France (as of 2007). At a height of 1.78 m his competition weight was 73 kg.

On 8 March 2009, the European Indoor Championship record of the German Sebastian Bayer was improved to 8.71 m. On 1 August 2010 the German Christian Reif improved the Europe championship record to 8.47 m. The European record has to date (as at 1 August 2010) validity.
