Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Paraíba

The Archdiocese of Paraíba (Latin: Archidioecesis Parahybensis ) is a located in Brazil Roman Catholic archdiocese based in João Pessoa in the state of Paraíba.

History

The Diocese of Paraíba was posted on April 27, 1892 by Pope Leo XIII. built out of territory of the Diocese of Olinda. On December 29, 1909, the Diocese of Paraíba were parts of its territory from the foundation of the diocese Natal. The Diocese of Paraíba was placed under the Archdiocese of Olinda suffragan on 5 December 1910. On February 6, 1914 cession of territory was the foundation of the diocese Cajazeiras.

On February 6, 1914, the diocese was elevated to an archdiocese Paraíba. The Archdiocese of Paraíba announced on May 14, 1949 from parts of its territory to the founding of the Diocese of Campina Grande. A further transfer of territory on 11 October 1980 foundation of the diocese Guarabira.
