Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Olinda e Recife

The Archdiocese of Olinda e Recife (Latin: Archidioecesis Olindensis et Recifensis ) is a located in Brazil Roman Catholic archdiocese based in Olinda, Pernambuco state.

History

The Archdiocese of Olinda e Recife da Bahia was established on July 15, 1614 by Pope Paul V with the Apostolic Constitution Fasti novi orbis out of territory of the Diocese of São Salvador as Territorialprälatur Pernambuco. The Archdiocese of Olinda was founded on July 26, 1918 by Pope Benedict XV. renamed with the Apostolic Constitution Cum urbs Recife Olinda e Recife in Archdiocese. On August 2, 1918, the Archdiocese of Olinda e Recife were from parts of its territory to the founding of the dioceses Garanhuns and Nazaré.
