Ørsta is a place and a municipality in the Norwegian Fylke Møre og Romsdal. The administrative center of the municipality is Ørsta. The place was originally known until 1917 as orsten.

Geography

The municipality stretches from North to South, 38.3 km and 43.2 km from east to west. The population density is 13.05 inhabitants per square kilometer. The highest peak is 1717 meters with the Kvitegga.

Neighboring municipalities are Hareid, Stranda, Sykkylven, Ulstein, Volda and neighboring Fylke Sogn og Fjordane, the municipality Hornindal.

Traffic

Attractions

• The Ørsta kyrkje is a 1864 by Wilhelm von Hanno and Heinrich Ernst Schirmer, built of wood, long church.
• The Ivar Aasen - tunet is a national documentation and experience center for the Norwegian written language Nynorsk.
• The Hotel Union Øye is a 1891 built in Swiss style hotel and was visited several times by the German Emperor Wilhelm II.
