The Rupp Pass is a mountain pass between the Swiss cantons of St. Gallen and Appenzell Outer Rhodes. It is located between the towns of Trogen and Altstaetten. The pass is at 1,003 m in the municipality Oberegg in the canton of Appenzell Innerrhoden in the turn-off to St. Anton. The vertex is located about 10 m higher and 500 m in the direction Trogen already in the canton of Appenzell Ausserrhoden. On the St. Gallen Rhine Valley facing side of the pass is the hamlet of supporter groups ( locals call him Rupp Doerfli ) belonging to Altstaetten.

History

In the Middle Ages a mule track linking the Rhine Valley market town Altstaetten with the Appenzell Trogen. In the years 1837/38 was expanded with a mobile road on the present tracks of the pass crossing. The greatest importance was the supporter groups from May 1842 to the 1860s, as a daily Eilpostwagen St. Gallen - Feldkirch wrong here. This track moderately shortest route between St. Gallen and the nearby Feldkirch in Vorarlberg and subsequently lost in importance again. Today, the road is used on the supporter groups, especially in the regional transport and in the summer months of motorcycle enthusiasts.
