Sand Point or Qagun Tayagungin is a place with 893 inhabitants on the island in the Aleutians East Borough Popof Iceland in the state of Alaska in the United States of America and also the administrative center of the borough. The town was founded in 1898 as a trading post and fishing village and initially predominantly inhabited by Unangan and Scandinavians, today originate almost half of the inhabitants of the Aleutian Islands from, mostly from the tribe of Qagan Tayagungin. Geography
The town is located on Popof Iceland, one of the Alaska Peninsula barrier island in the Shumagin Islands in the Gulf of Alaska. The port Sand Point is one of the ports of the Alaska Marine Highway.
