Geography

Schutter forest is located in the Upper Rhine Valley, in the natural area middle Upper Rhine Plain. The town is located on the alluvial fan of the Kinzig and about 1.5 km from the eponymous Schutter. The nearest major town is Offenburg ( about 6 km).

The size of the district is 2103 hectares, of which 698 hectares of forest.

Neighboring communities

The municipality is bordered to the north by Marlen and Hohnhurst, on the east by the county town of Offenburg, to the south and Hofweier Niederschopfheim and to the west by Dundenheim, nursing home and Mullen.

The municipality includes the districts Schutterwald Schutterwald, courtyards and long- Hurst. The municipality is the Outbound castle Mörburg.

History

Schutter forest was first documented in 1268. There were frequent changes in power relations, to the place in 1806 finally came to the Grand Duchy of Baden. Where the interest of the former ruling families less the village, rather than the forest, with its abundance of wood, pasture and Zehntrechten was. Over the centuries until today Schutter Forest is a popular tourist destination.

At the end of the 19th century, when the textile and glass industry in the near Offenburg settled, there were new job opportunities for Schutterwälder farmers. In Baden Schutterwald long belonged to the district of Offenburg, with which it rose in 1973 in the new Ortenaukreis. Today Schutter Forest is a peasant, worker and employee development.

Religions

Already 1316 is for Schutterwald a parish church proved that belonged to the diocese of Strasbourg. Since the Reformation walked past Schutter forest, the community is predominantly Roman Catholic today. In addition to the Catholic community, which has two churches, including the stately, the center superior and highly visible St. James Church, there are after the Protestants had previously been cared for in Diaspora of Offenburg, since 1995, also a Protestant church. In that church the Austrian Empress Maria Theresa is said to have stayed on their passage, with their equipage.

Economy and infrastructure

Education

With the Mörburgschule Schutter forest has a primary and secondary school work. Long Hurst has its own primary school. There are also four kindergartens (two in the main village and one each in Long Hurst and courtyards ).

Culture and sights

Schutter forest with its St. Jacob's Church endpoint of the Kinzig valleys James Way, a pilgrimage, which takes in many sights.

With the bunker theaters are there in Schutterwald an ensemble that occurs in the gym Mörburgschule.

Sports

Nationwide is the place known by the handball player of TuS Schutterwald who repeatedly played since the mid- 1980s in the Bundesliga, however so far could not be established.

The football club FV Schutter forest plays in the 2009/2010 season in the fifth division scheme, the highest southern Baden class.

Schutter forest since 1999, the venue of the Stuttgart championships in equestrian sport.
