History

Since 1890 is played in Scotland in league play. Initially there was the Scottish Football League ( SFL ) from a, from 1894 of two squadrons ( " Division One " and " Division Two "). For the 1975/76 season years, the professional league system was reorganized under the umbrella of the SFL. The ten best in the formerly 18 Premier League clubs formed the new " Premier Division " and the remaining 28 professional cuff distributed to the now second-class Division One and a new third division, which was named Division Two. For the 1994/95 season was added a fourth-rate ( " Division Three" ) and at all levels played at this time ten teams.

1998 decided the Premier Division, to secede from the Scottish Football League and to establish the Scottish Premier League. The ten clubs promised each of them a better marketing and consequently higher income. Above all, the system was that all clubs are involved to Third Division to the sponsor money from the league abolished.

By 2000, ten teams played in the Scottish Premier League, then an increase to twelve teams, it was decided to guarantee the recognition by the SFL clubs. To avoid a bloated game plan, the game system was changed to the above-mentioned manner.

In August 2006, the introduction of an SPL 2 was proposed by the SPL's CEO Lex gold. However, this proposal is controversial among supporters of many First Division clubs because the clubs would have to meet tough requirements ( Vollprofitum, pure -seater stadium with at least 3,000 seats ).

The biggest win in the history of the SPL was held on November 6, 2010 at 9:0 from Celtic against FC Aberdeen instead.
