Sewen

Sewen is a commune with 531 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ), in the Alsace Haut -Rhin. It belongs to the district Thann, to Canton Masevaux and community association Vallée de la Doller et Soultzbach.

Geography

The community Sewen lies at the foot of the Ballon d'Alsace ( Ballon d' Alsace) in the Vosges and is part of the Regional Natural Park of Ballons des Vosges. In the municipality springs the Doller.

The westernmost point of the community Sewen is also the most westernmost point of the department of Haut-Rhin. Here, on the southwest edge of the Ballon d'Alsace is the " quadrangle " - here come together, the four departments of Vosges, Haut-Rhin, Haute -Saône and Territoire de Belfort. The quadrangle forms a part of the Rhine -Rhône watershed.

The municipality includes the hamlets of Alfeld Alfeld back and Matt Lerch. The Alfelder lake (Lac d' Alfeld ), a 9.2 -acre artificial lake, which was built from 1884 to 1887 is primarily the balance of the water balance in the river system ( flood and desiccation protection). It is operated by the department. Another lake in the municipality is the Sewener lake (Lac de Sewen ). The two lakes are also the origin of the name of the community, which is derived from the Celtic words lake and Ven, meaning " near the sea".

Neighboring communities of Sewen are Dolleren and Oberbruck in the east, Riervescemont in the south, and Lepuix Plancher -les -Mines ( point of contact ) to the southwest as well as Saint- Maurice- sur -Moselle in the northwest.
