United Nations Security Council Resolution 1720

Resolution 1720 of the UN Security Council is a resolution by which the UN Security Council continued its efforts to bring about a referendum and a lasting political solution in the area of ​​Western Sahara. The Security Council referred to his previous resolutions on this issue, among other things, to the resolutions 1495, 1541 and 1675th The resolution was adopted unanimously at the 5560th meeting.

With the resolution, the member states of the United Nations will be asked to provide funds to merge due to the conflict between Morocco and the Popular Front for the Liberation of Saguia el- Hamra and Rio de Oro ( POLISARIO ) separated families. The resolution calls on both parties to the conflict on to use the next six months to end the fifteen-year impasse and to bring the negotiations back on track. During the session, however, the envoy of the United States has called on the Secretary-General, in the event that Mission des Nations Unies pour l' Organisation d'un Referendum au Sahara occidental ( MINURSO ) continued to remain unsuccessful in its efforts to prepare for the resolution of this mission.

The mandate of MINURSO was extended until 30 April 2007 and requested the Secretary-General to report back before the end of the mandate by the resolution. The resolution was adopted unanimously during the 5560th meeting of the Security Council on 31 October 2006.
