United Nations Security Council Resolution 1723

The Resolution 1723 of the UN Security Council is a resolution adopted unanimously at its 5574th meeting, on 28 November 2006, the United Nations Security Council. It is a resolution under Chapter VII of the Charter of the United Nations. The Security Council refers to its previous resolutions on Iraq. The resolution text had been tabled by Denmark, Japan, Slovakia, the United Kingdom and the United States.

With Resolution 1511, 1546 and 1637, the mandate of the Multinational Force (MNF -I), referring to the resolutions of 1483, extended to 31 December 2007. The resolution also extended the duration of the Development Fund ( paragraph 20 of resolution 1483 ) and the use of proceeds from the sale of crude oil, oil products and natural gas and their monitoring by international observers.

The resolution demands of the United States with quarterly reports on the situation in Iraq and specifically mentions that the mandate will be reviewed by 15 June 2007 and will end prematurely if the Iraqi government so requests.
