Venezuelan Primera División

The Primera División Venezolana is the highest football league in Venezuela. It was founded in 1921 and is since 1951 a professional league. It is organized by the Venezuelan Football Federation.

Mode

18 teams take part in the league. Each season consists of Apertura and Clausura and is usually discharged from August to June. The champion is determined in a playoff between the Apertura and Clausura winner.

International qualifications

  • The table of Apertura and Clausura First take part in the group stage of the Copa Libertadores.
  • (Except Apertura and Clausura calculated together, the respective winner) The team with the most points from the overall table taking part in the qualification of the Copa Libertadores.
  • The teams with the second - or third- most points from the overall table ( Apertura and Clausura calculated together, the respective winners excluded) take part in the Copa Sudamericana.
  • If the same team Apertura and Clausura win, so she takes and the team with the second most points at the Copa Libertadores in part, the team with the third- most points in the qualification for the Copa Libertadores. The teams with the fourth and fifth most points will take part in the Copa Sudamericana.

Descent

The two teams with the least points ( Apertura and Clausura together) will be relegated to the second division.
