Wer weiß, wie nahe mir mein Ende? BWV 27

Who knows how near my end? ( BWV 27) is a church cantata by Johann Sebastian Bach. He composed it in Leipzig in 1726 for the 16th Sunday after Trinity and first performed it on for the first time on October 6, 1726.

History and words

Bach composed the cantata in his fourth year in office in Leipzig for the 16th Sunday after Trinity. The prescribed readings for the Sunday were Eph 3.13 to 21 LUT, " Paul prays for the strengthening of the faith of the church in Ephesus ," and Luke 7:11-17 LUT, the awakening of the young man of Nain. In Bach's time the gospel of the resurrection of the dead referred in general, combined with a longing for death. The unknown lyricists involved in the input sentence, the first verse of " Who knows how near my end? " of Aemilie Juliane of Schwarzburg- Rudolstadt one, the "who can only love God prevail " is sung to the tune of. He used as a final chorale, the first verse of " Goodbye world! , I am weary of you " by Johann Georg Albinus. Bach led the cantata on October 6, 1726 for the first time.
