Živinice

Živinice (Cyrillic: Живинице ) is a municipality with the same name the main town and administrative center in Tuzla Canton of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Geography

The territory of the municipality Živinice extends from the northern slopes of Konjuh Mountains to the plains of the river Spreča vale, which flows through the region from east to north-west. The city itself lies at the mouth of the Gostelja in the Oskova and shortly before its confluence with the Spreča vale to 232 m altitude.

In Konjuh there is coal and the further north-eastern Majevica Mountains lignite deposits, which are also mined.

Neighboring municipalities are Banovići, Kalesija, Kladanj, Lukavac, Šekovići and Tuzla.

History

The place Živinice probably originated in the 18th century. The community in today's expansion has existed since 1959.

From Bosnia war Živinice City was affected only to a small degree. Some settlements in the east of the community were, however, right on the front line and were largely destroyed.

Population

At the 1991 census, the municipality had 54 783 inhabitants Živinice.

  • 3,525 Serbs ( 6.43% ),
  • Yugoslavs 2,130 (3.88 %),
  • Other 1,135 (2.07 %).

In the actual city lived 11,956 people.

The municipality covers 30 locations: Barice, Bašigovci, Brnjica, Djedino, Dubrave Donje, Dubrave Gornje, Dunajevići, Đurđevik, Gracanica Kovači Kršići, Kuljan, Donja Lukavica, Gornja Lukavica, Odorovići, Priluk, Spreča vale, Suha, Svojat, Serici, Tupković Donji, Tupković Gornji Donja Višća, Višća Gornja, Sarenjak, Vrnojevići, Zelenika Zukići, Živinice, Živinice Donje and Živinice Gornje.

Economy

In Višća Donja in the southwestern part of the township coal is surface mined. Besides the coal is mainly the forestry and wood processing with the furniture factory " Konjuh " of meaning.

Traffic

By Živinice runs the main road M18 which connects with Sarajevo Tuzla. The area has several railway connections, which are used exclusively to freight.

In the north of the community is the airport of Tuzla, which emerged from the old military airfield Dubrave.
