1986–87 Serie A (ice hockey) season
The 1986/87 season was the 53rd season of the series A1, the highest Italian Hockey League. Champion for the first time in club history at all AS Varese Hockey. The HC Auronzo descended to the second division.

Mode
In the main round each of the ten teams played a total of 18 games. Subsequently, the league was split into the second season phase in two groups of six or four teams. According to their main round placement were the teams for the second season phase bonus points. In the second season phase, the teams played in home and away leg against each group opponent. All six teams in Group A and the top two teams in Group B qualified for the playoffs, where the championship was played. The last placed in Group B went straight into the second division. For a win, each team was given two points, a draw there was a point and a defeat.
