2011 World Touring Car Championship season

The World Touring Car Championship 2011 was the total eighth season of the WTCC and the seventh since the re- start of the series in 2005. After several changes in 24 races were held on twelve tracks.

2011 amendments

For 2011, there were some new rules. One of these concerns the motors. Under the new regulations, in addition to the previous 2000 cc turbo diesel and naturally aspirated 1600 cc turbo petrol engines were introduced. Long term, all engines are converted. Another new rule applies to the starting grid for the second race. So far, the riders started according to their finish in the first race, the first eight in the reverse order. 2011, the first part of qualifying was now crucial. The ten fastest drivers there did not qualify more for the second part, but started the second run in reverse order from the first five rows of the grid.

Early December 2010, BMW announced that they would get out of the factory WTCC and concentrate fully on the long haul, and the DTM project. However, they wanted to continue to support private teams. To this end, BMW offers its customers a " conversion kit " with the new 1600 cc turbo engine and a sequential six -speed gearbox. The "new" car then called BMW 320 TC ( TC Touring Car).
