Arnex-sur-Nyon

Arnex -sur -Nyon is a municipality in the district of Nyon in the canton of Vaud in Switzerland.

Geography

Arnex -sur- Nyon is situated about 2 km as the crow from the French border to 454 m above sea level. M., 3,5 km to the west of the district town of Nyon (air line). The village is located south of the river Boiron de Nyon in the plain between the lake and the Jura.

The area of ​​2.0 km ² only just large municipal area includes a portion of the plain at the foot of the Jura. In the north of Boiron flows in a little valley by the municipality. To the southwest of the municipality extends to the ground in the forest of Maillefer, in the 473 m above sea level. M. is achieved the highest elevation of Arnex -sur -Nyon. Population

With 187 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) Arnex -sur -Nyon is one of the smallest municipalities in the canton of Vaud. Of the 61.8% inhabitants are French-speaking, 29.4% in English and 1.5% Spanish speaking (as of 2000). The population of Arnex -sur -Nyon amounted in 1850 to 100 residents in 1900 to 79 inhabitants. After 1980, only 62 inhabitants were counted, sat a population increase with a doubling of the number of inhabitants within 20 years. Since medieval times, the place is so not grown significantly.

Economy

History

The first written mention of the village was carried out in 1154 under the name Arnai, later the spelling Arnay appeared. The place name probably derives from the Latin personal name Arnius. From the first mention up to the beginning of the 14th century the village belonged to the nobles of Arnex, which presumably were vassals of the lords of Prangins. The Cistercian abbey of Bonmont and the Lords of Gingins owned land in Arnex -sur -Nyon. 1293 came the suzerainty over Arnex -sur -Nyon to the House of Savoy. From 1432 the town was under the priory Ripaille.

With the conquest of Vaud by Bern in 1536 Arnex -sur -Nyon came under the administration of the Bailiwick of Nyon. After the collapse of the ancien régime, the village belonged from 1798 to 1803 during the Helvetic Republic to the canton of Geneva, who came up then with the enactment of the Act of Mediation in the canton of Vaud. 1798 was assigned to the district of Nyon. Arnex -sur -Nyon does not have its own church, it belongs to the parish Crassier.
