Aschau im Zillertal

Aschau im Zillertal is a municipality with 1725 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2013 ) in the Zillertal valley and belongs to the district of Schwaz in Tirol ( Austria ). The municipality is located in the judicial district of Zell am Ziller.

Geography

Aschau is located at the junction of the front in the Zillertal valley, at a narrow point. It is next to Mayrhofen the only community on both sides of the Ziller. The municipality comprises the main town of Aschau and scattered hamlets on the slopes and on the valley floor.

History

Aschau was in 1309 as " Aschowe " ( Eschenau ) first documented. The name refers to the extensive lowland forests that covered the valley of the Ziller until the 11th century. The district Distelberg was first mentioned in documents in 1188.

The municipal area is historical in the Diocese of Innsbruck west of the Ziller and the Archdiocese of Salzburg ( Distelberg ) east of the Ziller separately.

1973 Aschau was combined with the formerly independent municipality Distelberg.

Culture and sights

  • The parish church "To our Lady of Victories " was built in 1850 in the style of late classicism.

Economy

Of importance to agriculture, the two seasonal tourism (between the Hochzillertal and Zillertal Arena in Zell am Ziller located ) and smaller businesses. Otherwise, many residents commute to their workplaces.

Traffic

Aschau is connected on the road and the Zillertal Zillertal Railway with stops Aschau im Zillertal and Erlach. From Aschau in addition, the summit section of the Zillertal High Road can be achieved.
