Ay-sur-Moselle

Ay- sur -Moselle is a commune with 1519 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011 ) in the department of Moselle in the Lorraine region.

Geography

The community Ay is on the right bank of the Moselle, about half- way between Metz and Thionville.

History

The place was first mentioned in the Middle Ages as Ayest, but he is much older.

1885 had 557 inhabitants of the village.

1915-1918 and 1940-1944 he was the German name Aich on the Mosel.

During World War II, the majority of the French population was expelled from the German civil administration, on 16 November 1944, the city was retaken by French troops.
