Bogis-Bossey

Bogis -Bossey is a municipality in the district of Nyon in the canton of Vaud in Switzerland.

Geography

The double municipality located 6 km southwest of the district town of Nyon (air line). Bogis extends to 468 m above sea level. M. on the eastern edge of the valley of Versoix, on Bach Greny, Bossey is at 441 m above sea level. M. on the ridge that accompanies the Lake Geneva on its western side.

The area of ​​2.4 km ² large municipality area includes a small portion of the back between the Versoix in the west and the lake to the east. The highest point of Bogis -Bossey reaches 475 m above sea level. M. The western boundary is formed by the course of the river Versoix, which runs in a partly marshy valley (Les Bidonnes ). In Bogis part of the water of Versoix is derived and fed into a canal by the Bogis directly flowing into the lake and streams Greny Le Brassu. From the municipality surface 1997 12 % came from settlements, 27 % of forest and shrubs, 59% to agriculture and slightly less than 2% was unproductive land.

Bogis -Bossey consists of the main village and the hamlet Bogis Bossey, but there are still some isolated farms. Neighboring communities of Bogis -Bossey are Crassier, Founex and Chavannes -de- Bogis in the canton of Vaud, in the canton of Geneva and Céligny Divonne- les- Bains in neighboring France.

Population

With 806 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) Bogis -Bossey one of the smaller municipalities in the canton of Vaud. Of the 66.1 % inhabitants are French-speaking, 17.2 % in English and 7.7 % German-speaking (as of 2000). The population of Bogis -Bossey in 1850 amounted to 131 inhabitants, 1900 to 147 inhabitants. After 1980 (187 inhabitants ) continued a rapid increase in population with a quadrupling of the number of inhabitants within 20 years.

Economy

Bogis -Bossey was until the second half of the 20th century, mainly coined by farming village. On the slopes below Bossey there is something viticulture, otherwise there is the agricultural front. More jobs are in small local manufacturing and services available. In recent decades, Bogis -Bossey has developed into a residential community. Most workers are commuters ( approximately 85 %) who work mainly in Geneva.

Traffic

Although the community is located off of larger thoroughfares, but traffic still technically well developed. Bogis is located on the main road from Chavannes -de- Bogis after Crassier. The motorway connection Coppet on the A1 ( Geneva -Lausanne ), which runs through the municipality, is located just 2 km from the village. By Postbus course, which runs from Nyon to Coppet, Bogis is connected to the public transport network.

History

The first mention of Bogis was in 1135 under the name Bittgeium ad pontetulum. Later, the names Bugeium ( 1166 ) published, Buggeium ( 1197 ), Boggie ( 1251 ) Bogie (1320 ), Bogiez and Bogier ( 1401 ) and Bogies (1686). Bossey was first mentioned in 1178 as Bossye. Since the 12th century Bogis Bossey and belonged to the Cistercian abbey Bonmont. With the conquest of Vaud by Bern in 1536, the villages came under the administration of the bailiwick of Nyon. They were combined in 1542 to a small dominion. As Bonmont was separated in 1711 from Nyon, was Bogis -Bossey seat of a Kastlanei in the Bailiwick Bonmont. After the collapse of the ancien régime Bogis -Bossey belonged from 1798 to 1803 during the Helvetic Republic to the canton of Geneva, who came up then with the enactment of the Act of Mediation in the canton of Vaud.

Attractions

The Bossey castle was built in 1722 under the Geneva family Turettini. It often changed hands and heard since 1946 the World Council of Churches, who have arranged an ecumenical university and a conference center.
